Honors Theses:

Sullivan, Nikki (2020) Effects of repeated intermittent episodes of social stress on the acquisition and extinction of a reward-seeking task (full text)

Hannah, Shaffer (2019) Time Course Effects of Repetitive Social Defeat Stress on a Prefrontal Cortex-Dependent Cognitive Flexibility Task (full text)

Marquez, Rosemary Marguerite (2019) Feedback-Related Neuronal Processing During Motor Learning (full text)

Available Research Projects:

The brain under stress

Project Description: The mechanisms by which stress impairs brain function and behavior are unclear. This research utilizes animal models to investigate how the repetitive exposure to stress changes behavior (i.e. decision-making, reward-seeking, memory). The results will help to better understand how stress facilitates the development of psychiatric disorders.

Desired Student Qualifications: Basic background in Biology-, Psychology-, Pharmacy-related Sciences. Motivation to learn how the brain works!

Project Timeline: At least two semesters

Duties of Student Researcher: Training laboratory rats to perform operand behavior. Data analysis and graph representation

The Neuronal Correlates of Behavior in the Human Brain

Project Description: We use electroencephalography (EEG) to determine how the activity of the brain changes when subjects learn motor and cognitive tasks. The ultimate goal is to better understand the neuronal mechanisms of learning and memory in the human brain.

Desired Student Qualifications: Basic background in biology/psychology or related sciences

Project Timeline: At least two semesters

Duties of Student Researcher: Perform EEG recordings in subjects (10-15 hours per week)
