Research Description: Dr. Fransee received her Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. She specializes in modern European and global history, focusing in particular on colonialism, gender and sexuality, as well as race and racism in France and the francophone world (particularly French Africa). Other research interests include citizenship, elections, political rights, protest movements, female suffrage, cultural history, popular culture (especially science fiction and speculative fiction), and comparative histories of European empire and imperialism.
