The Behind the Big House Program
Project Description: I work with the Behind the Big House (BTBH) program in Holly Springs, MS, which interprets the lives of the enslaved, through their former slave dwellings. The project was initiated by several private property owners, who want to tell the stories of the people who lived and used these buildings during the 19th century. The program works in collaboration with Gracing the Table, a racial healing group which addresses the effects of slavery in the present.
Desired Student Qualifications: I am looking for students with interests in historic preservation and tourism. There are opportunities to do archival research, tour planning, and racial reconciliation work. Transportation to Holly Springs can be arranged.
