Key Words: Social Justice, Equity, Mathematics Education
Research Description: Dr. Amidon's interests lie in designing, enacting, and examining mathematics instruction that moves all students to work with mathematics to analyze, question, and improve their world. Simply put, he is interested in thinking about what it means to teach mathematics as an act of unconditional love and considering what does it look like to lead people to love others through mathematics education.

Available Research Projects:
Access, Agency, and Allies In Mathematical Systems (A3IMs)
Project Description: The Common Core State Standards for Mathematics call for increased interactions within the classroom environment in the form of argumentation and justification. This increased attention on participation implies that what counts as valid participation in a mathematics classroom needs to be expanded so as not to alienate traditionally marginalized groups. This project will develop, resources, models, and tools for use by teachers, teacher educators and researchers to collaboratively use to investigate and improve mathematics instruction for all students.
Desired Student Qualifications: Interest in issues of equity and social justice and/or education/mathematics education. Ability to use/learn to use technology
Project Timeline: 8/2014 - 7/2018
Duties of Student Researcher: interacting with schools/teachers, classroom observation, data entry, data analysis, literature research, writing

Stories of Relationships with Mathematics and Elementary Mathematics Teacher Efficacy
Project Description: This project is about examining mathematical autobiographies (called MatHistories) of elementary teachers who are enrolled in an elementary mathematics methods course. These stories are being analyzed and compared to a measurement of teacher efficacy.
Desired Student Qualifications: Motivated to learn and coachable.
Project Timeline: Fall of 2020 to present
Duties of Student Researcher: Literature Review, Data Analysis, Instructional Design, and whatever else may suit the gifts of the student.

Teaching Math Methods for Social Justice
Project Description: We are developing a elementary math methods module to demonstrate how to teach with, for, and about social justice in an elementary mathematics classroom.
Desired Student Qualifications: Organized and motivated. Ability to adapt to new technology.
Project Timeline: Present through May 2018
Duties of Student Researcher: Literature Review, Data Analysis, Instructional Design, and whatever else may suit the gifts of the student.
