Research Description: Dr. Kathleen Wickham teaches Advanced Reporting, Media Ethics and a course on press coverage of civil rights. She previously worked as a reporter the Newark (N.J.) Star-Ledger and Atlantic City (N.J.) Press. Her research complements her professional background and teaching areas. She was instrumental in having The University of Mississippi named a national historic site in journalism in honor of the reporters who covered the 1962 integration crisis as well as the establishment of a memorial in honor of the French reporter murdered on campus during the 1962 riots. She has published three books, numerous academic articles on isues of media ethics, diversity and press coverage of civil rights. She has judged the National Headliner Journalism Awards since 2010. SPJ presented her with its David L. Eshelman National Outstanding Campus Adviser Award in 2008.
