Linking Experiences and Reading Network (LEARN) and Hierarchy of Effective Lesson Planning (HELP)
Project Description: Both studies are quantitative. Honors students will work with the professor and a graduate student on all phases of the study. Phases will include 1. Meeting with the professor to learn the goals of the research and principles of quantitative research as well as the district and IRB requirements. 2. Training on the procedures for using LEARN or HELP with elementary students in classroom settings. 3. Work with, and under the guidance of, the professor and/or graduate student to conduct the research with students in an elementary school. 4. Analyze data and determine results. 5. Work with the professor and graduate student to write the study for a scholarly journal.
Desired Student Qualifications: Interested in the topics and responsible.
Project Timeline: Spring semester, February- Mid April, 2016- Conduct Research Spring semester, March-end of April write for publication.
Duties of Student Researcher: To follow the guidelines approved by the IRB to work with students in elementary school/s on strategies designed to promote reading comprehension and vocabulary learning. To analyze results of the study and be a coauthor for an article for publication. To write about the study with the professor and graduate student with a goal of publication.
