Research Description: Our research group is focused on trying to understand the mechanisms that lead to cognitive impairment in advanced age- a debilitating aspect of aging faced by thousands of people daily. Alterations in endocrine signals like growth hormones are associated with impaired memory; however, the mechanisms by which they do so are poorly-understood. We are pharmacologically and genetically targeting these endocrine pathways within rodents, assessing learning and memory, and subsequently examining structural, biochemical, and genetic changes within key learning areas of the brain.
